Human damage to the Earth environment
and eco-system did not start at the Industrial Revolution - it
started much earlier. It is just on an ever-lasting acceleration,
the most significant phase of acceleration being the Industrial
Revolution and its aftermath.
Ever since "human being" started to become
"human being" ("homo-sapien"), i.e. the begining
of Palaeolithic age a million years ago, we started to try to
change the natural ecological law. Neo-palaeolithic age, starting
at the end of the last ice age ~10,000 years ago, saw the emergence
of pasturization and agriculture, and the earth eco-system exploited
to an ever-irrecoverable stage - a "River of No Return".
The present great deserts in North Africa, Arabia, Mesopotamia
and Central Asia had once been rich, fertile agricultural / pasturizural
land. It was due to excessive exploiation of these areas by us,
human beings, that caused these areas to be deterioated into deserts.

This is a subject worthwhile for us to explore,
and if possible, to arouse public interest, especially for the
younger generation. It is only by recognising our damage to the
eco-system - and hence to our future
generations - that we candevise methods to reduce the damage -
and with a hope, though really remote and probably cannot be realized,
to revert the trend of damage.
